How-to edit a Virtual Machine Template
Objective
Edit a Virtual Machine (VM) template using ITS Private Cloud Portal.
Steps
To edit a VM template, you must first convert it to a Virtual Machine (VM). Once the necessary changes have been applied, you can convert it back to a VM Template. In this example, we will update the Network Adapter using the VM Template 2006T-CentOS7-Template-1.
Login into Cloud Portal UI
Access Templates menu option:
Click on the hamburger icon and navigate to the Templates tab.
Disable VM Template:
Select and click Edit button to modified the desired VM Template.
Click the Template switch to turn it off.
When prompted, click Yes to confirm.
This action will convert the VM Template into a Virtual Machine (VM).
Locate the Virtual Machine:
Click the hamburger icon and go to the Virtual Machines section.
Edit the Virtual Machine:
Select and click Edit on the VM you previously converted from a VM Template (2006T-CentOS7-Template-1).
Update Network Adapter:
Navigate to the NETWORKS tab.
Edit the Network Adapter and select the Network Adapter needed. For our example we will use VSS vSphere Lab VLAN.
Save Changes:
Click the Update button.
Clicking Confirm button when prompted.
Reconfigure as VM Template:
Edit the VM again to configure it back as a VM Template.
Click Yes to confirm the change.
Review Updates:
The VM Template is now updated. You should see the updated template in the Templates menu under the hamburger icon.
