Virtual machine name minimum is 2 characters and maximum of 75 characters. This is 80 characters supported by VMWare vSphere minus the VSS Prefix composed of 5 characters.

Restrictions of using special characters in names of entities

VMware recommends avoiding special characters in the names. However, the ITS Private Cloud API remove any special character included.
