Network Interfaces cannot be detected on Windows Guests

Problem

Network Interfaces cannot be detected by Windows Guests since VMware VMXNET3 drivers are not included by default in certain versions.

Solution

Install VMware Tools

vSphere Client

Login to either the VMware vSphere Client or the Web Client

  1. Right click on the Virtual Machine

  2. Select Guest > Install/Upgrade VMware Tools

  3. Proceed on the Windows guest through the wizard to install VMware Tools

VSS CLI

Using https://vss-cli.eis.utoronto.ca or a local Cloud CLI install

  1. Mount VMware Tools:

vss-cli compute vm set <VmnName-or-id> tools mount
  2. Proceed on the Windows guest through the wizard to install VMware Tools
