Step-by-step guide

OpenVPN (Preferred VPN Choice)

OS X

Procedure tested with Tunnelblick 3.6.5 (build 4566)

  1. Download and Install Tunnelblick.

  2. Download vskey-gw.ovpn and vskey-gw.crt from here.

  3. Double click on vskey-gw.ovpn.

  4. Select whether the VPN will be available for All users or Only you. Type in your admin credentials.
  5. Select Done.
  6. Go to the taskbar and look for the Tunnelblick icon, click on it and select "Connect vskey-gw".

  7. Type your VSKEY credentials.

Ubuntu (14.04)

  1. Install Network Manager (OpenVPN) using apt-get:

    sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn
  2. Download the vskey-gw.ovpn and the vskey-gw.crt (to the same directory)

  3. From the network manager drop down, choose Configure VPN 

  4. Choose "Add" .

  5. Choose "Import a saved VPN configuration..." and click "Create".

  6. Select the ovpn file and confirm that the crt file is in the same directory.

  7. Input your VSS username, and choose your password preference.

  8. Choose the "IPv4 Settings" tab, click the "Routes..." button and select "Use this connection only for resources on its network."

  9. Click "OK", then "Save", then "Close".

  10. Activate the VPN connection and test your login.

Windows

  1. Download and Install OpenVPN.

  2. Download vskey-gw.crt and vskey-gw.ovpn from here.

  3. Copy both configuration files to OpenVPN configuration directory (either "C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config\" or, with Windows 7+, "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\OpenVPN\Config\").

  4. Run OpenVPN as Administrator (Right Click on OpenVPN Icon and click Run as Administrator).

  5. Search for the icon in the taskbar and click connect.

  6. Type your VSKEY credentials.

 

Remember to Run OpenVPN as Administrator. Otherwise, VPN routes will not be added.

 

Android 4.x

  1. Download/install OpenVPN Connect

  2. Follow configuration instruction available here (courtesy of UTORvpn).

iOS (iPhone/iPad)

  1. Install OpenVPN Connect from iTunes. 

  2. Follow configuration instruction available here (courtesy of UTORvpn).

L2TP/IPSec 

  1. Download the L2TP/IPsec pre-shared key

  2. Go to Network preferences.

  3. Create a VPN Interface. with Type L2TP over IPSec. and Set Service Name: VSKEY-GW or any desired name.

  4. Server address must be vskey-gw.eis.utoronto.ca

  5. Go to Authentication Settings and paste the already downloaded L2TP/IPsec pre-shared key.

  6. Save settings and Connect using your VSKEY credentials.
