VSS VPN Guidelines


The ITS Private Cloud offers a VPN service that enables client to securily access their virtual resources and other orchestration tools like the ITS Private Cloud API.


Every ITS Private Cloud client is entitled to use the VSS VPN. Unlike UTORvpn, the VSS VPN requires an account managed and provided by the VSS team. To set up your ITS Private Cloud account:


To ensure a safe and efficient service, we require all users to follow our usage policy, which includes the following terms and conditions:

  1. Account Usage: Each account is for the use of the registered individual only and is not transferable to any other person or entity. Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account login credentials and must not share them with anyone else.

  2. Use of the VSS VPN is subject to the University’s Appropriate use of Technology Guidelines and is only intended to manage ITS Private Cloud resources, including access to Virtual Machine Console via vCenter Server, S3 Storage Interface, API or CLI. For other purposes related to University’s services, we recommend UTORvpn or AdminVPN.

  3. Network Usage: Users must not interfere with the operation of our VPN service or any other component of the ITS Private Cloud or systems connected to it. Any attempts to overload or disrupt the service are strictly prohibited.

  4. Account Suspension: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any user account that violates our usage policy.

  5. Technical Support: Any technical issues related to our VPN service must be addressed via email to vss@eis.utoronto.ca or ITS ESC https://uoft.me/esc . However, we do not provide support for third-party software or hardware.

By using our VPN service, you agree to abide by this usage policy. We reserve the right to modify this policy at any time, and any changes will be posted on this page.
