VSS User Storage Guidelines

The ITS Private Cloud offers a VSS User Storage aka VSKEY-STOR service that enables client to store files such as virtual machines exports, import files, ISO images, inventory files produced by the ITS Private Cloud orchestration tools.

Eligibility

Every ITS Private Cloud client is entitled to use the VSS User storage as long as the account is active.

Policy

To ensure a safe and efficient service, we require all users to follow our usage policy, which includes the following terms and conditions:

  1. Account Usage: Each account is for the use of the registered individual only and is not transferable to any other person or entity. Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account login credentials and must not share them with anyone else.

  2. Use of the VSS User Storage is subject to the University’s Appropriate use of Technology Guidelines and is only intended, but not limited to store files related to ITS Private Cloud resources.

  3. Storage Usage:

    1. Entitlement: Each account is entitled to a maximum storage limit of 2TB (Terabytes).

    2. Eligible Files: The service can be used to store various file types including, but not limited to:

      • Virtual machine exports (ova, ovf, vmdk, etc.)

      • Import files (ova, ovf, vmdk, etc.)

      • ISO images (iso)

      • Inventory files produced by the ITS Private Cloud (csv, json)

  4. Storage Retention:

    1. Retention Period: Files stored in VSKEY-STOR will be retained indefinitely.

    2. Decommissioning Rights: ITS Private Cloud reserves the right to decommission files at any time.

    3. Notification: If a decision is made to decommission any files, the ITS Private Cloud team will notify the affected users with reasonable notice to allow for necessary actions, such as downloading or transferring the data.

    4. Data Backup and Recovery: Users are encouraged to maintain their own backup copies of important files. The ITS Private Cloud team is not responsible for data loss resulting from file decommissioning or other unforeseen circumstances.

  5. Account Suspension: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any user account that violates our usage policy.

  6. Maintenance: Periodic maintenance may be conducted by the ITS Private Cloud team, and users will be informed in advance of any potential impact on their storage service.

  7. Technical Support: Any technical issues related to our VPN service must be addressed via email to vss@eis.utoronto.ca or ITS ESC https://uoft.me/esc . However, we do not provide support for third-party software or hardware.

By using our VSS User storage service, you agree to abide by this usage policy. We reserve the right to modify this policy at any time, and any changes will be posted on this page.
