Ubuntu Pro POC for the ITS Private Cloud Wrap-Up
After months of diligent effort and collaboration, we are excited to announce the successful completion of the Ubuntu Pro Proof of Concept (POC) initiated in June 2023. This milestone marks a significant step forward in our journey to provide highly secure solutions at the ITS Private Cloud.
Key Highlights and Improvements:
Enhanced Activation Process: One of the primary focuses post-POC was to streamline the activation process for Ubuntu Pro within virtual machines. Customers can seamlessly activate Ubuntu Pro directly from within their virtual machines, eliminating any unnecessary complexity. How to enable Ubuntu Pro on your VM
Knowledge Base Articles: To assist users in maximizing the benefits of Ubuntu Pro, we have created a set of Knowledge Base (KB) articles to empower users deploying virtual machines with per-enabled Ubuntu Pro and additional solutions to manage their virtual servers.
On Premisses License Server: We are pleased to announce that we have successfully deployed an on-premise license and mirror server to activate your Ubuntu Pro without leaving the U of T network. Settings are available in the following extra configuration options queried via VMware Tools:
guestinfo.ut.vss.ubuntu_pro.token
guestinfo.ut.vss.ubuntu_pro.endpoint
guestinfo.ut.vss.ubuntu_pro.livepatch.token
guestinfo.ut.vss.ubuntu_pro.livepatch.endpoint
Introduced Ubuntu Pro for another domain: We made available more licenses to support Ubuntu Pro on cluster FD1 in late December 2023.
FD1 and FD3 are licensed to run Ubuntu Pro Workloads.
As we transition from the POC phase to full-scale deployment, our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction remains unwavering. We are dedicated to continuously enhancing the ITS Private Cloud experience, refining our offerings, and providing the best support to our partners.
